Bloomsburg Town Square

Welcome to the Bloomsburg Volunteer Ambulance Association (BVAA) website.  Here you will learn more about us including what we have to offer as well as what you can do to help the community.

The BVAA is located in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.  In 1958 the town of Bloomsburg, in association with the Bloomsburg Fire Board and The Bloomsburg Hospital, realized that the town was in need of a community volunteer ambulance association.  On July 2, 1958 this realization became a reality when the Bloomsburg Fireman's Volunteer Ambulance Association was formed with two ambulances and 48 volunteers.  Ten years later the name was changed to the Bloomsburg Volunteer Ambulance Association as a result to changes in the EMS.

Currently, the BVAA is home of three ambulances.  On July 1, 1999; the BVAA joined with Commonwealth Medical Services and The Bloomsburg Hospital to provide a partnership called "Greater Columbia Medical Transport Service" (GCMTS).  Under this union the Bloomsburg Volunteer Ambulance Association provides a volunteer EMT driver and GCMTS provides a Paramedic.  This unique combination provides Advanced Life Support Services to a majority of Columbia County, 24 hours a day - 7 days a week.

The BVAA continues to provide Basic Life Support coverage to the town of Bloomsburg and the surrounding areas.
